Freedom Historic Cemetery

Freedom Cemetery Preservation Foundation

The Freedom Cemetery is a small, pioneer cemetery located in central Utah. Well over 100 years old, the cemetery was found in 1995 abandoned and in disrepair. The Freedom Cemetery Preservation Foundation was organized by several of the descendents of those buried there with the goal to restore and preserve the rich history and genealogy of the cemetery. Since that time the Foundation has been responsible for planting new grass, trees, and shrubs; installing a sprinkling system; building a pavilion and restroom facilities; straightening headstones; and marking the cemetery with a new sign at the entrance as well as direction signs on the county roadway. These are just a few of the improvements made.

While these improvements have been key to creating a gathering place to pay tribute to the rich pioneer heritage housed in the Freedom Cemetery, perhaps the most important contribution made by the Foundation was the creation of the Freedom Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund. The Foundation uses as little as possible to maintain the cemetery and all the officers and members of the foundation freely donate their time. The remaining financial donations are kept in the Perpetual Care Fund to ensure the preservation of the cemetery for generations to come.
